That’s why we stick with short-wave infrared. Instead of trying to warm up the air—which is a losing battle outdoors—these heaters beam heat directly onto the skin. The Gear: Rain, Dust, and Power Since this is outdoors, you can’t just use any heater. We only use gear with an IP65 rating or better. In plain English? It’s sealed tight. Rain happens, dust flies, and you absolutely cannot have a short circuit in the middle of a crowded party. Just a heads-up: these things pull a lot of power to get that intense heat. When you’re wiring them in, make sure your breakers can handle the initial surge, or you’ll be spending your night resetting the power box. Adding the “Brains” The real magic happens when you stop chasing switches and start using a smart system. We usually use Zigbee or Matter relays to connect those heavy-duty heaters to a simple tablet or phone. It makes life so much easier. You can set a sensor to trigger the heat the moment the temperature dips to 10°C. Or, if the manager sees a crowd gathering, they can just tap one button and warm up the whole zone. No more sending staff on a scavenger hunt to find every manual switch across the patio. The Stuff Nobody Tells You Here’s the thing: adding smart controls adds a bit of a headache during the install. You aren’t just running power; you’re running data. If your Wi-Fi is spotty out on the deck, your “smart” heaters will lag, which is a pain. To avoid that, we just hardwire the controllers with Ethernet. It’s a bit more work upfront, but it saves you from a lot of glitches later. And one last tip: these lamps gethot. Really hot.
