It’s a waste of electricity and, frankly, it doesn’t really do the job. That’s why we’ve moved toward high-IP infrared heaters. They just make more sense. The secret is in how the heat actually moves. Standard heaters try to warm up the air. But heat rises. So, in a steamy bathroom, all that warmth just floats up to the ceiling while you’re standing there shivering. Infrared is different. It doesn’t bother with the air. Instead, it sends out waves that hit your skin—or your mirror—directly. This is a lifesaver for those foggy mirrors. By keeping the glass just warm enough, the steam never gets a chance to settle. You step out of the shower and you can actually see yourself. No more wiping the mirror with a towel and leaving streaks everywhere. Dealing with the “Bathroom Factor” Bathrooms are basically torture chambers for electronics. Between the steam and the occasional splash, most gear just corrodes or shorts out. Those old lamp warmers usually have gaps in the housing where moisture creeps in. We don’t do that. We use units with high IP ratings—which is just a fancy way of saying they’re tightly sealed. With heavy-duty gaskets and moisture-resistant coatings, the guts of the heater stay dry. They don’t burn out, and they don’t quit on you. The catch (because there’s always one) You can hide these behind the mirror or mount them overhead. They’re small, sleek, and get out of the way. But here’s the thing: infrared is directional. It’s like a flashlight, but with heat. If you aren’t standing right in the “beam,” you aren’t going to feel it. You can’t just throw one in the middle of the room and expect the whole space to feel cozy. You have to put them exactly where you’ll actually be standing. If you miss the mark on placement, you’re just heating up a wall.
