
Making Infrared Heaters Safe for the Eyes (and the Bathroom)
Most people just look at the wattage when picking a bathroom heater. They want raw power. But if you’re designing for a space where babies are around, the “brightness” of the heat is actually the bigger deal. We build our IP65 units to give you that instant warmth without that blinding, harsh glare you get from standard infrared lamps. Keeping the glare away Standard halogen tubes throw out a lot of stuff you don’t actually want—like intense visible light and UV rays. It’s a bit like staring into a spotlight. To fix that, we use coated quartz glass or special filters. Essentially, we push the energy toward the long-wave infrared side of things. You still feel the heat, but the light is dialed way down. It means you can actually look toward the heater without squinting or feeling blinded. Dealing with water and heat Showers are wet. Obviously. To keep the electronics safe, we seal everything to IP65 standards using tempered glass and high-temp silicone gaskets. But here’s the tricky part: when you seal a box that tight to keep water out, the heat gets trapped inside. To stop the unit from cooking itself, we use aluminum heat sinks to pull that heat away from the wiring. If the ventilation isn’t spot on, the internal temp spikes, and your lamp will burn out way faster than it should. The trade-offs Nothing is perfect. Those eye-protection filters do cut into the thermal efficiency a bit. You lose a tiny bit of heat penetration to get that softer light. To make up for it, we spent a lot of time on the reflector geometry. We shaped it to focus the infrared energy exactly where it needs to go, so you don’t actually feel the difference. One last tip for the install: keep an eye on your circuits. These high-wattage elements have very low resistance when they’re cold. This means they can pull a big surge of power the second you flip the switch, which might trip a sensitive breaker if you aren’t prepared for it.
